Seasonal Music in Welwyn Garden City
Welwyn Garden City Orchestra and Chorus will give a concert of music appropriate to the season at St. Francis Church, Welwyn Garden City, at 7.30pm on Saturday 10 December 2011.
We begin with The Seasons, the music written by Alexander Glazunov in 1899 for a one act ballet by the choreographer Marius Petipa. The different scenes from the work take us through each of the four seasons, finishing with an apotheosis depicting the starry sky.
This is followed by contemporary composer Howard Blake's music for the cartoon film The Snowman. This is a well established Christmas favourite, which needs little introduction, and includes the song "Walking in the Air".
The Orchestra and Chorus will then perform the Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan
