A message from Paul Butler

The provisional figures for this year suggest we will have netted (after expenses) about £14,000, which is another tremendous year. Congratulations and many thanks for the time and effort you have put in to make this happen, which is a message we ought to pass on to all those who have helped in their many ways - from helping set up, cooking, working on stalls or clearing up afterwards! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE DAY!

St Johns Church Lent Programme.

Living the Word - Life, Work and Mission

A series of talks during Lent focussing on the ways we integrate our Christian faith with life, work and mission Six speakers share their own experiences - held on the 5 Thursdays during Lent - February - March 2015 The evenings commenced with refreshments - each evening we had a different speaker from Lemsford which was introduced by a Chairman, there was an opportunity to ask questions during and afterward. and ended with prayer.

26th February Michael Hahn a manager in the pharma industry. Born in Germany, and finishing his studies with a PhD at the University of London. 5th March Andy Garratt a Chartered Surveyor challenged by problems of fraud, forced mergers, weak governance and business distress. 12th March Stefan Kotas working in the legal profession as a Civil Servant representing the Home Office in appeal hearings at the Asylum and Immigration Tribunals. 19th March Sarah Finch an actor and theatre director, speaking of challenges she faces dealing with the productions she has been asked to act in. She works both in UK and abroad.

Sarah is part of the Focolare group in the Lemsford Vilage. 26th March Nicola Matthews working as a Nurse in the community particularly caring for those with life limiting long term conditions, and with their families in many distressing and difficult situations.

Also Rev. Sue Stilwell who has been working for the past 5 years as a Chaplain for a Methodist Home in Letchworth, which is a Christian Care provider. Her work in caring for the elderly and people at the end of their lives offers Sue the opportunity to fulfil her calling to servant ministry. Sue has been working as Curate at Lemsford church for the past 4 years.

Sue devised this programme drawing on the experiences of people from the congregation, allowing them to share some of their lives which we just don’t have time to learn about. Each week the Chairman is also from the congregation of St John’s church, Lemsford. These were interesting and instructive, which brought ready questions in a relaxed situation.
